BEKEGEM INDEPENDENT

I, Rens Cools, declare Bekegem independent on Sunday 30 August. For one day, from sunrise to sunset, Bekegem will secede from Ichtegem and I, as its proud mayor, will take care of the welfare of my residents.

During the first edition of the PLAN B Arts Festival, Rens Cools declared Bekegem independent for one day. By donning the mayor's sash, giving a speech in the church and listening to the concerns of the people of Bekegem, Rens was the first mayor to take office 'in the name of the arts'.

BIO

Rens Cools (born 1991, Belgium) graduated in 2013 with a Master's degree in Liberal Arts from Sint-Lucas Antwerp, followed by a Master's degree in Research in Art & Design at Sint Lucas Antwerp. Rens' work is at the intersection of sculpture, video, performance and web art. He explores these artistic forms in a minimal yet radical way: Embedded Fiction. In this, he takes on different roles, deliberately weaving fictional elements into his own life so that they ultimately become reality. Rens has had several solo exhibitions: THE META SHOW, www.the-renscools-collection.com (both at GALLERY GALLERY, 2018, Antwerp) and Lorem Ipsum in Space Novilon (Antwerp).
