Fieldwork III project presentations, 23 October in Brussels
All information in English/French here.
On 23 October, arts platform PLAN B and Cifas will present the projects that took place as part of Veldwerk III. At La Bellone in Brussels, Nina de Vroome, Barbara T’Jonck, Tim Theo Deceuninck, May Abnet and Ánima O. Cassamajor will bring their research to life in words and images.
FIELDWORK
With Fieldwork, arts platform PLAN B supported a group of artists/collectives in a long-term research project in rural areas over three editions. There was only one criterion: that it would take place outside the city, or at least question the city as the centre of things. The artists thus put their practices, fields of interest and questions to work in order to investigate a landscape and (re)imagine it while listening. Not as a nostalgic, disadvantaged or authentic region in relation to the ever-modernising city, but as a snapshot of rural dynamics and relationships.
For Fieldwork III, these were Nina de Vroome, Barbara T'Jonck, Tim Theo Deceuninck, May Abnet and Ánima O. Cassamajor. They set to work in an old mining village, took a critical look at the idea of a collective rural community, explored how the landscape can become a photographer, reinterpreted 'the valley' as a meaningful place to reflect on information technology, and wondered how we can bring nature to the city and the city to nature - with a focus on people who have less access to it due to systemic oppression.
PROJECT PRESENTATIONS
This project also concludes with an insight into the research processes. The artists each created a record in the form of a poster, leaflet, publication, etc. During the project presentations, they will bring these to life through a mini-exhibition, performances and readings. Expect a colourful collection of research questions for a (re)imagining of rural space.
Arts platform PLAN B is collaborating with the Brussels-based organisation Cifas, a place for learning and experimentation in the performing arts in the city and its surrounding areas.
