Art & Zwalm heats up! - 5, 7, 21 June in Zwalm

As in previous editions, this year we are presenting an extensive programme of diverse activities in addition to the art route. These will take place during the route, but also in the period leading up to it. Below you will find an overview.

5 June – Film, discussion, ritual
AN EVENING WITH SEASONAL NEIGHBOURS Art collective Seasonal Neighbours is working on a project for Kunst & Zwalm '25 entitled 'The compost and the nest'. They will be exploring the question of what it means to inhabit each other's spaces, together with people, animals, plants and everything in between. During this evening, they will take you on a journey through this theme in words, images and actions. 

When: 5 June 2025 – from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

7 June – Ritual commemoration and cooking workshop
Ψυχοσάββατο (PSIHOSAVATO)
SATURDAY OF SOULS

The Post Collective's 'Metaspora' is one of the projects of Kunst & Zwalm '25. For this, they are organising cooking workshops related to various cultural rituals, in collaboration with the Ijzerkotmolen. On 7 June, we will learn how to prepare kolyva, a ritual dish made from wheat, honey, nuts and dried fruit. It is rooted in Eastern Orthodox traditions and is prepared for Psihosavato, a moment dedicated to commemorating the deceased. Together, we will explore ways to honour those who have gone before us.

21 June –
AGRIPUNCTURE workshop
Artists Sarah van Lamsweerde and Esther Mugambi are working on a project entitled 'Sore Spot Songs' for Kunst & Zwalm '25. In the workshop, we will identify places in our environment where something painful has happened. This could be something big, such as a car accident, but also something small that still leaves lasting scars. Together, we will work with these stories. During this workshop, you can expect to discover something about the Zwalm region, about each other and about the healing power of plants and songs.
