KUNSTENPLATFORM PLAN B

Area VI

Arts platform PLAN B and AR-TUR invite you to join them on Sunday 22 October for the Dorpsmakersfestival (Village Makers Festival) in the Kempen region.

In October, the architecture and space platform AR-TUR is organising the Village Makers Festival, a month in which they look back on their previous activities and evaluate their impact (including the Kempen Atlas and the insights from the Kempen Labs 2017-2022). AR-TUR also took four village dramaturges under its wing: Breg Horemans and Taat, Seasonal Neighbours, Maxime Vancoillie and Amber Vermaete. They were appointed to embrace the complexity and diversity of the villages and to comment on the spatial challenges of the villages with their own unique perspective.

Arts platform PLAN B will visit AR-TUR on 22 October and would like to invite you to join us. The schedule for the day is as follows:

12:30 Introduction by AR-TUR

13:00 Visit to House for Seasonal Neighbours, a project by Seasonal Neighbours.

15:30 Visit to Kalenderkringen, a project by Maxime Vancoillie in Merksplas Kolonie.

4:30 p.m. Discussion

18:00 End

In her proposal 'Calendar Circles', Maxime wants to make the cyclical movement(s) of the village visible (again) and set them in motion. She uses three figures for this: the calendar of perception (time), the circle ditch (space) and the circle rituals (action).
The 'House of Seasonal Neighbours' provides a space for exchange, shared cups of tea or coffee and a dialogue about hospitality, community life and living in the village. Specifically, they are looking for an alternative map for the region from the perspective of newcomers, mainly seasonal workers.

More information about the projects of Seasonal Neighbours and Maxime Vancoillie can be found here.

This visit is part of Areaal, a learning network focused on artistic practices outside the city. Each meeting has a theme chosen by one of the participants, who share their practices and experiences with artistic work outside the city with each other and the affiliated artists. This creates a fabric of shared knowledge about art and the rural environment.

In 2022/23, Areaal will consist of the platform for architecture and space AR-TUR, the arts space for co-creation, craftsmanship and diversity Manoeuvre & laboratory for contemporary transdisciplinary art nadine, the loose-knit arts collective Seasonal Neighbours, the practice for soft power and radical imagination DEVET and the performative-spatial collective TAAT.
